A Fun Movie Night Menu

Movie nights are the after-evening events where we set up and invite several friends and family over for good food, fun and conversation. Some hosts ask guests to bring snacks or drinks while others will prepare a little ‘sumthin sumthin’ that often means popcorn is ninety percent of the menu. Of course, there’re some people who take a tad more time to put together more wholesome and exciting dishes.

For all movie night hosts and hostesses who don’t have the time and those who just don’t have a clue about what to prepare, here are some ideas for easy, quick and sometimes economical finger foods for your movie night menu:

  • Popcorn

The regular movie night snack, and it really does go well with the movie setting, so no need to leave it out. But, you can mix it up a bit by serving different types, say two dishes of caramel popcorn, one with nuts and one without.

  • Vinnie’s Cracker Treat

Crush some Grace Vienna sausage and serve on crackers. Mix black pepper, onion and other seasoning with the sausage, or use as garnish.

  • Choco - Donut balls

You know those cute, tiny donuts made in the shape of a ball? Just serve those with skewer/sticks with a bowl of chocolate syrup in the middle of the serving tray. It’s like chocolate donuts, but smaller. Tastes great!

  • Fruits ‘n chocolate

What kind of fruits taste good with chocolate? Strawberries, grapes and even bananas are all good. Select fruits you and your guests will enjoy and serve the same way as the choco-donut balls.

  • Chips ‘n dip

This is a veteran finger food item. Make your own unique dip with ingredients such as cheese spread, jam, peanut butter, hot pepper, prunes and raisins.

  • Home made Rice Krispy Treat

These will satisfy the sweet tooth. All you’ll need is the cereal, margarine/butter and marshmallows. Or try something ‘you’ by using a different kind of cereal.

  • Cheesy Kebab

You’ll need at least three different types of cheese, and add some diced fruits such as cherries and grapes. You could also add diced tin ham to keep the definition true, but be sure to separate those for the non-pork eaters.

  • Veggie dip

For the vegans/vegetarians in the crew prepare a plate of fresh vegetables like carrot, lettuce and Pak Choy and serve with a nice chilled sauce. Sounds simple but they’ll love it!

  • Veggie on a stick

Round up some vegetables, coat with a flour mixture and ‘fry’, when you’re done serve on a stick, with/without dressing; create your own  or get a dressing off the shelf.

  • Apple Mountain

This is another fruit idea that’s real easy to prepare. The only ingredient is some good ole Jamaican apples. Cut them in medium sized slices and stack them up like a mountain. It will come out looking like a masterpiece.

  • Lemon Squares

Yet another sweet tooth satisfier! Lemon square recipes are usually easy to follow and prepare, plus it doesn’t have a long baking time and it can be shared up to feed a large group of people. So if you’re up to it this would be a nice pastry item to add to the menu.

  • Nuts Tray

Peanuts, pecans, cashew, pistachio and any kind of nuts you find. Serve up to your movie crew. Add some raisins if you wish.

  • Beverage galore

Give your guests lots of options for drinks: water, soda, coconut water, fruit juice and/or ‘sky juice’, make your own with crushed ice and syrup!
Make your movie night menu another entertaining aspect of the event. Hush now! I don’t want to miss this part.
